This Week 9/52: Play is serious

This week has felt more like spring; the early mornings are still cold, but not quite so icy, and the sun soon warms up the rest of the day, but it has also been quite windy which stops it from getting too hot.

This week 9/52

Last Sunday I took Emma to a little park near us so she could play on the slide and swings in the afternoon.  There is also some exercise equipment which caught her attention and she soon wandered over to the strange apparatus, probably thinking they were also for her to play on.  Well, I guess she was right, in a way.  While I couldn't work out exactly how you were supposed to use some of the equipment, Emma soon found ways to play on them.  I was quite impressed that her arms were strong enough for her to swing from a bar just above her head with both feet off the ground.  I took a couple of videos as well as photos - if you check my Instagram account (@mummy_and_the_mexicans) you can see the video where she's swinging while making monkey noises!

This week 9/52

On Wednesday was my mother-in-law's birthday and me and Emma collaborated pretty successfully, I would say, to make this card (Pinterest-inspired, I admit!).

Homemade birthday card

We went out for dinner in the evening, which is when Emma discovered her love for flan napolitano (similar to creme caramel).  She scoffed half of her grandmother's and didn't leave me much of mine, either!

Today, Saturday, Emma's grandmother, who suffers from high blood pressure, had two quite heavy nosebleeds during the morning, so we went with her to the doctor to get her checked.  While we waited, Emma entertained herself with some toys that were in the waiting area, moving around a small plastic chair, getting on and off it, playing with a plastic baby bath unit for a non-existent baby doll and dragging that across the room, and telling me what was a chair and what wasn't.  It turned out that my mother-in-law's blood pressure was normal and there was no clear cause for the nosebleeds, but that they may have been exacerbated by taking aspirin.

Anyway, when we left the clinic, we discovered a lovely papelería (stationers) almost next door which sold beautiful printed papers by the kilo.  Neither of us were able to resist the temptation!  Here's what I brought back, although I have no idea what I'm going to use this paper for yet.

Emma's speech this week
Some of the new words and phrases she's been saying lately:

"Fon" = phone
"Beebee ha" = baby's hat (she was looking for, then found, her baby doll's hat!)
"Fan pees" = flan please (new dessert discovery; she couldn't get enough of it!)
She points at and says the names of some parts of her body: "toes", "arm", "mouse" (mouth!), "nos", "nee".
"Char ma, char si" = this isn't a chair (indicating a low table), this is a chair (indicating a chair or sofa)
"Poon" = pun in Spanish is a fart!
"Geen chee, re(d) chee" = green chilli, red chilli (pointing out chillies in the painting that's on the kitchen wall)
"Back" = black, and also back, as in "put it back"

Her speech when she's chattering to herself is punctuated by a little "mm" noise between words and I wonder whether it means anything - is it a word in itself, like "and", or is it just a thinking sound, or a sound for the sake of making a sound?

Quote of the Week

I like this quote, and it applies to adults as much as children. I want to remind myself to play more (which doesn't mean working less), and especially with Emma.

  7. I'm not sure I would have known what to do with that equipment on the playground either. It looks like Emma mastered it though. I love the words she's been using. And 'poon', ha! It's always the ones that stick :) Thanks so much for linking up with #KCACOLS and I hope you can make it again next week x

  8. Very impressed by the card! And that Emma can swing from bars - mine are rubbish! They don't hold on! I'm also obsessed with picking up pretty craft paper for no particular purpose. I'm glad Emma has already nailed the words to deal with her new dessert obsession - priorities! #KCACOLS
